A Week at the Black Sea

Bulgaria is one of six countries that lie on the Black Sea. For ten days in August I got to traipse around the little town of Kiten, Bulgaria. From swimming the in sea to eating amazing traditional cuisine we had such a wonderful holiday. I wanted to be able to share my stay at the seaside with you!NSH_0409.jpg

Kiten is one of the smaller cities that resides on the Black Sea. We normally live in Plovdiv, Bulgaria so the drive was around 4hrs to get to the seaside. My husband and his family have always chose to visit Kiten, because it tends to be a bit quieter than the more popular cities nearby. That being said the Bulgrian seaside is a very popular destination for many travelers all over the world, so finding accommodation proved to be a little more difficult than we anticipated. If you are planning a trip to the Bulgarian seaside be sure to check out accommodations online beforehand.

August was a perfect month for swimming in the sea and we spent every morning sun bathing, swimming and enjoying a beach favorite “carevica” (aka corn). The beach was always the best way to start our mornings! It was usually followed with a little nap then heading out for a late lunch at one of the many amazing restaurants in town. Our favorite spot had to be Beer House which had a delightful menu of salads, steaks, and a variety of seafood. I had hands down the best muscles I have ever tasted here!

After dinner we would usually walk around the walking street in the city center. Here you would find rows of shops, restaurants, food carts and carnival games. We tried our hand at a few different games and picked up a souvenir or two. The “Spanish Doughnuts” were among our favorite treats to finish the night off with. A good amount of churros with a chocolate dipping sauce was enough to put us in a sugar comma for the rest of the night, but not before we caught a late night showing in the open air cinema! The open air cinema has been there for many years and although it shows signs of wear and tear it was such a fun experience!

An expedition we went on one of our days spent exploring was to find a set of docks where the waves would heavily crash into causing the dock to become a splash pad. Once we were able to find an access point we put on our swimsuits and prepared to get drenched. We got some fun footage and enjoyed our little adventure!

Lastly I wanted to talk about our favorite go to bar to take some of the best pictures of the sunset while enjoying a cocktail. This cute beach bar has it’s own private little cove with six different bars and an abundance of seating from tethered boat seating to tables in the water. This bar is a must see for any tourist stopping by Kiten!IMG_4962.JPG

We just had the most relaxing time in Kiten and soaked up every second of this precious little town. If you ever get the chance to swing by the Black Sea this has to be on your list of places to visit! I know we will be back next time we are in Bulgaria.

Cheers,
